Translation No. 9 of "Les Folies d'Espagne" (M. Marais)-Acrylic on wood board
I first heard Marin Marais' music in a film called "Tous le Matins du Monde" from the 1990's. I fell in love with its romance, sadness, and emotions. I have now painted a series of paintings on songs from this film. Each painting depicts a different piece or movement from each piece.
I have painted this artwork using a glazing method. This allows for a lot of subtle color changes and range while allowing the light to seep through the layers. In this particular painting, I have left parts of the wood board exposed (but finished with a varnish) as you can see in the upper right-hand corner and other areas where there are yellow washes of paint. This is intentional as I wanted to evoke the wood instruments that are prevalent in the music.
For all my paintings, I use professional-grade materials. The painting is sealed with a UV protectant, acrylic varnish to keep the colors vibrant for its lifetime.
***This painting is NOT framed, but it is cradled in wood with a 1.75 inch depth. The back is wired and ready to hang.
