Inspired by Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, II. Andante, this piece captures the unexpected lightness and brightness of a work that feels, at last, free from the shadow of Stalin’s regime. While I still sense a wash of white in the second movement—an echo of reflection or stillness—there’s also a quiet playfulness woven into the keys. In translating this feeling, I chose a simplified color palette and built delicate layers of greens, blues, and browns to evoke the subtle emotional shifts and lyrical complexity of the music.
