Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 is lighter and brighter than his earlier works, and, finally, sounds free of the pain and suffering he conveyed under Stalin rule. I still see a lot of white when I listen to the second movement, but I also sense a bit of playfulness in the keys. For these paintings (3 so far), I simplified the color palette, and played with delicate mark-making in shades of gray and blue. I captured a ray of light by adding golds and yellows under the hazy, cloudy background.

This painting is currently NOT framed, but the sides are painted dark grey and it is wired, ready to hang.
